Vodafone Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge SM-G925F is getting another Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update. This new update will bump the Galaxy S6 to build G920FXXU3QOJH from G920FXXU3QOH8. While the Galaxy S6 edge will also move to build G925FXXU3QOJH from G925FXXU3QOH8 to which was just rolled out way back in August. According to the initial changelog details, both updates offers some bug fixes, device stability enhancements along with security patch and further improvements to performance. It's only a minor OTA update to which addresses some minor issues to the previous released.

Verizon Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Enables Samsung Pay Update Now Available

As promised to Verizon Galaxy S6 (SM-G920V) and Galaxy  S6 edge (SM-G925V)  owners that they will get the Samsung Pay apps installed on their devices. It is now finally rolling ou bringing the said Samsung Pay to which the new recently launched mobile payment in the United States alone.  The update is still base in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop but will move the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 OS build version to G920VVRU4BOG9 from G920VVRU4BOG7. Updating the Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge via Over-The-Air (OTA)


This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases, a notification message will be directly sent out to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.  This approach requires you to prepare a strong WiFi connection,  and so it might happen sometimes that one did not receive any software update notification messages; 1) if and when the device is out of range during the software update roll out  period, 2) Automatic update has been turned off in the device Settings.
However, We can still manually check for the update instead.

Here’s how to do it manually:
  • From your Galaxy S6 Home screen tap on Apps.
  • Select the Settings gear icon.
  • Tap About device.
  • Tap Software update.
  • Tap Check for an update.

It will then notify you that a new update is available for download. But it also says that “Your device software is up to date“, and there is no software update is yet available for grab. You can simply choose Download and Install now if you do so or else Install later if you want to get the update in later time.

But if ever you might have had received this message while checking software update that says something like “The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorised way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service centre.”  This is a warning message that only appears for those devices that have been rooted and installed with modified and unofficial firmware.  So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot the Galaxy S6 edge  first and removed any modification that has been installed on it.

The update mainly brings the Battery usage and App optimization support. The new feature to which allowing the Galaxy S6 Edge users to monitor the device battery consumption as well as granting access to optimize the applications to save as much of the battery power.

The G925FXXU3COI9 5.1.1 update is officially released for the unbranded or unlocked Galaxy S6 (SM-G920F) only. It is has been spotted and are available in England and France as we speak, but then again it might be also available throughout the rest of Europe soon.  The release is still in stages, so it simply means that some may already received the said update, but there are still many that does not seen the update yet.

  • Ensure to recharge your phone first.
  • Do not forget to backup all of the important data that were stored in the device memory.

Rogers Galaxy S6 Getting 5.1.1 Update to Build G920W8VLU2BOI6, Bringing VoLTE Support

Rogers Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-G9208) 5.1.1 update to build G920W8VLU2BOI6 has started rolling out. Fortunately,  this is the 3rd build that had to release in Canada. Noting that the first 5.1.1 update was released earlier last month, dubbed with build number G920W8VLU2BOH8 but it wasn't successful enough and have had taken back by Samsung due to the data freezing issues found in it.

In addition, the other day's roll out was on build G920W8VLU2BOI1 but only select Canadian carriers have had released the latter.

This update is now seeding on Rogers and Fido Solutions Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-G920W8) as the update mainly equipped with the Voice-over-LTE VoLTE and Video calling support. Also, noting that Rogers Galaxy S6 now supports the VoLTE but might as well also available to its subsidiaries such as Fido.

The other update was to build G920W8VLU2BOI1 and only rolled out to Wind, Videotron, and Eastlink's Galaxy S6 owners.

Features: 

The update details only showed the standard notification message, telling you that the update includes some security enhancements, improved the users Interface and further improvements to performance and more.

But for those  whom already got the 5.1.1 update on September 03, you may have already noticed some changes and features that hasn't been technically addressed in the changelog such as the following:
  • A security patch to which an address to the Stagefright vulnerability in picture and video messaging (SMS).
  • Redesigned Apps icons, taken from Galaxy Note 5 which has a rounded corner.
  • Live Broadcasting.
  • The rests are some  enhancements to Apps drawer, camera, audio and more.

However, Bell and Telus might also follow this coming couple of days, but it is still unclear to which 5.1.1 build they are about to release.  We'll just update this post when that time comes around.

The update build G920W8VLU2BOI6 5.1.1 is now seen via Samsung Smart Switch and might as well gradually started to roll out via Over-The-Air (OTA).  So make sure to check the update right now if you haven't received the notification message yet, by simply  hitting your device Settings > About device > Software update > Check for Update.
