So better check the update right if you are from those mentioned regions.

How to Update the Galaxy S6 to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

  • Make sure to recharge your phone first.
  • Do not forget to backup all of the important data that were stored in the device memory.
  • Your Galaxy S6 must still run on the official software version and has not been rooted nor installed with non-official firmware.

Updating the Galaxy S6 via Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases, a notification message will be directly sent out to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.  This approach requires you to prepare a strong WiFi connection,  and so it might happen sometimes that one did not receive any software update notification messages; (1) If and when the device is out of range during the software update roll out  period, (2) Automatic update has been turned off in the device Settings.
However, We can still manually check for the update instead.

Here’s how to do it manually:
  • From your Galaxy S6 Home screen tap on Apps.
  • Select the Settings gear icon.
  • Tap About device.
  • Tap Software update.
  • Tap Check for an update.

It will then notify you that a new update is available for download. But it also says that “Your device software is up to date“, and there is no software update is yet available for grab. You can simply choose Install now if you do so or else Install later if you want to get the update in later time.

But if ever you might have had received this message while checking software update that says something like “The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.”  This is a warning message that only appears for those devices that have been rooted and installed with modified and unofficial firmware.  So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot the Galaxy S6  first and removed any modification that has been installed on it.

Update the Galaxy S6 using  a Computer via Smart Switch for PC

Download Smart Switch for PC

You have to choose the one that is specifically built for computer, depends on what you have either a PC or Mac.  Once you installed Smart Switch, all you need to do is to connect your Samsung Galaxy S6 on your  computer using the supplied USB  cable.
  1. Open Smart Switch in your computer.
  2. Connect the Galaxy S6 into the computer using the supplied USB data cable.
  3. Smart Switch will automatically prompt you if the update is available. Just click on the “update” then the “OK”  button to begin updating your Galaxy S6.

Once the update has made, you may now check the technical details of the new update, from Home screen  simply touch the Settings gear icon and then tap About device > Software info.

Once the update is made, you may now check the technical details of the new update, from Home screen  simply touch the Settings gear icon and then tap About device.

Galaxy S6 G920F Official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update build G920FXXU3DPAD, 1st Release

Samsung has finally released the Galaxy S6 SM-G920F Official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. The first Android Marshmallow upgrade are dubbed with build number G920FXXU3DPAD to which has been sent out to the unlocked version of the Galaxy S6. Unfortunately, the said Android M is  initially landed in France, but will continue to roll out across the European region, and not too long enough to wait for that.

Technical details of the first official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update:

  • Device:  Samsung Galaxy S6
  • Model number: SM-G920F
  • Android version: 6.0.1 (Marshmallow)
  • Baseband version: G920FXXU3DPAD
  • Kernel version: 3.10.61-7025264

  • AP: G920FXXU3DPAD
  • CP: G920FXXU3DPAD

Furthermore, the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow offered a much more consistent and well-optimized users interface (UI), instead of adding more applications. In this major update, Samsung has focused on user experience and the device performance. Below are the initial changelog details of what are new features and or enhancements found in the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update.

Changelog details:

  • OS upgrade to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
  • The new TouchWiz provides enhanced usability and an updated visual design.
  • Quick connect helps you easily find and connect to nearby devices and pre-connection.
  • Fingerprints are securely protected. An alternative unlock method (pattern,PIN, or password.
  • Advanced power saving mode restricts background data and extends battery life.
  • New enhanced users interface and a lot more.

Again, the rolling out has alreadystarted in France, this is the first build yet, so there is nothing to rush in. As I said earlier, it will surely continue to roll out to other countries any time soon. The Android Marshmallow firmware itself weights at around 1.3 GB in file size, and it can be downloaded via Over-The-Air (OTA) and thru Smart Switch for PC.
